LabeledI’m normal. Yes. It’s true. But normal by what standards? Who has the right to make such a definitive answer? No one does. That’s why everyone is normal by someone’s standard. So you wonder, and wish, and maybe envy someone because of what you have labeled them. That is ridiculous. You have the power to personify yourself as anything you want. I could call myself an artist. It’s comic relief in the form of a broken ghost. The difference between what you think is real and what you say is real is black and white, complete opposites. WeaknessThe smoke drifted lower over my head as I wept. Psychotic without my addiction. Just when I’d thought I’d lost my inspiration. Black and white are colors. Not shades. When I thought I’d found the gate to the Garden of Eden. It appeared to me whole. So close and yet so far. The piece of the crossword that wasn’t filled in was the only piece that you had a clue for. You gazed at me with your uncertainty. Waiting for anything, any choice, any direction. I am no longer your leader. For as you lay there in the patience, I lay beside you. Not as your superior, but as your equal. The standards that used to give me cause are gone. Weakness

EscapeYou looked upon your diary so blank and weak. Seeing for the first time what you thought had been covered in writing had been erased. It was not as if someone was out to get you but as if someone had helped you start anew. You drank and drank until you blacked out. Not as a way to end it. But as a release. Excuse me, but you bear a striking resemblance to someone familiar. Struggling to remember who is this companion to the stranger. The atmosphere of memories. Dropping like rain from the sky and sinking into the ground. Often to never be acknowledged. Looking at yourself so defeated. Unhappiness is the new cigarette. Escape

To learn to "dance in the rain" is to meet life head on, with no conditions for whether or not we'll show up for it. We show up, because that's what we came here to do. We show up because it's our honor to do so. We show up because it's a privilege to walk this earth as a pilgrim, and make the path a little lighter for those who follow. We show up because being true to our spirit and true to our soul's journey is far more important and a higher calling than giving in to the ego's fear and invitation to shrivel.

No, we show up here, you and I. Because to do any less is an offense to the truth of who we are. The conditions do not matter. The circumstances do not matter. We still show up each and every day, because it's who we say we are. We bring whatever life has gifted us, and yes, I'm stating this diagnosis is a gift, and we use it to create our lives.
